iStock_000001571632LargeWe hope that you’ve been enjoying at least a little downtime this week! Perhaps you’ve even had some time to do a little planning for the rest of the semester and summer? While you have a moment to breathe, we invite you to take a few minutes to explore some of the many opportunities offered both at UofL and across the state this summer:

Digital Pedagogy FLC
Are you interested in creating podcasts, designing audio essay assignments, developing data visualization presentations, or some other digital teaching approach?  If so, this is the opportunity for you! The community will begin with a required intensive 4-day workshop on May 13-16.  Four follow-up sessions during the 2013-14 academic year will offer participants ongoing technical and pedagogical support for their individual projects.  Co-sponsored by the Delphi Center and the Composition Program.Learn more about the Digital Pedagogy FLC. Applications are due Monday, March 18, so check it out now!

I2a Institute
This annual three day conference is an interactive professional development opportunity designed to connect faculty and staff with campus colleagues, enable them to interact with national experts, and share scholarly projects that promote the integration and assessment of critical thinking across the undergraduate experience. Participants can sign up to attend one or more days and will learn, share and build upon innovative approaches to fostering critical thinking. Learn more about the i2a Institute. Information and registration for the May 20-22, 2013 event, can be found here.

Kentucky Innovations Conference (KIC)
Join us for a dynamic conference with innovative ideas for Kentucky education institutions May 16-17, 2013. There will be six different tracks including pedagogy, information technology, instruction with technology, eLearning, libraries and special initiatives. Faculty members, instructional designers, librarians and IT professionals can explore their particular field, and how their field intersects with other areas across campus. The Teacher Quality Summit, Kentucky Convergence Conference and the Kentucky Conference on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning have combined to form a learning community focused on topics related to P‐12, adult and post‐secondary education. Upon completion of the conference, participants will understand major trends and key issues facing Kentucky education.

The Delphi Center will provide funding for conference registration, mileage, and one night lodging for up to 20 UofL faculty and staff members to attend this year’s KIC. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis with preference given to UofL presenters and faculty. To be eligible for these funds, you must apply for funding by April 18. Learn more and apply for funding here. The Delphi Center will handle your registration for the conference. A $250 stipend will be transferred via Intra University Transfer (IUT) to your designated departmental speed type for your mileage and lodging reimbursement.

Delphi U
Delphi U is an exciting four and a half-day workshop designed to give faculty the tools and principles they need to create effective, interactive and stimulating online courses. Individuals leave Delphi U with a head start on creating or redesigning an online course and the skills required for continuing their work after the workshop. Sessions are offered in spring and summer. Spaces are still available for the June session, and the deadline for applications has been extended to April 5, 2013.

What are your summer plans for professional development?

Will you be attending one of these events? If you are, let others know why they should consider as well!
